What is BioLPG?

It’s no surprise that rural households across the UK rely on LPG for reliable, responsive heat – especially in homes that aren’t suitable for alternatives like heat pumps. If your home is powered by LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), you’ll know it’s a clean-burning fuel ideal for off-grid homes.

LPG is a by-product of natural gas extraction and oil refining – and among traditional fossil fuels, it has one of the lowest carbon footprints, producing around 13% less CO₂ than oil and up to 40% less than coal or solid fuels.¹

But we also know the future needs to be lower-carbon. That’s why Flogas is evolving too.

Introducing BioLPG (also known as biopropane) – now available from Flogas.

Made from sustainable materials like used cooking oils and organic waste, it works in the exact same way as conventional LPG — but with up to 50% fewer carbon emissions.²

If you’re an existing Flogas customer, you can choose allocated BioLPG for some or all of your LPG use. There’s no need to change your boiler or tank, so moving to BioLPG is simple.

Is BioLPG a good choice for my home?

Yes — If you already use LPG, you’ll know it provides instant heat, works in all weathers, and powers everything from boilers to cookers to fires. As BioLPG is chemically identical to LPG, it fits right into your current system.

To keep your existing LPG system running smoothly:

• Get your boiler serviced annually by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
• If your boiler is approaching 15+ years old, ask about newer models designed to be compatible with renewable liquid gases.

If your home is powered by other fuels, such as heating oil or solid fuel, then BioLPG could be the best step in reducing your carbon footprint.

How do BioLPG deliveries work?

When you choose BioLPG, you select the proportion of your LPG use that will be matched with certified BioLPG through our mass-balance system.

For example, if you choose 20% allocated BioLPG, you’ll pay for 80% conventional LPG and a certified renewable portion equivalent to 20% of your order.

You’ll continue to receive your LPG through our usual delivery network. The BioLPG allocated to you is added to our wider supply network, so it isn’t guaranteed to be physically present in your individual delivery.

For every 1,000 litres you order with 20% allocated BioLPG, we add the equivalent of 200 litres of certified BioLPG to our wider supply network and allocate it to your account.
